Paraprofessionals – also known as teachers’ aides or para-educators, work under the supervision of certified teachers. Paraprofessionals work with students on supplemental instruction, whereas the teacher’s role is to keep the class learning at grade level. Paraprofessionals may help students, individually or in groups, with assignments by utilizing specific teaching strategies and an acquired knowledge of learning styles.

This class will help to prepare students to take the PRAXIS exam.  As a result of No Child Left Behind legislation of 2002, paraprofessionals are required to either have 48 hours of college credit, an associate degree or to have demonstrated, through a state or local academic assessment, knowledge of, and the ability to assist in the instruction of reading, writing, and math.  The PRAXIS exam consists of questions covering reading, mathematics, and writing.
